Joy Collins

Teacher of Language Arts, Reading & Science - 5th grade

Academic Background:

I studied at Boston University in Massachusetts, earning a degree in biology with specialization in ecology and conservation biology and a degree in Hispanic language and literatures. During my time at BU, I spent a semester at the University of San Francisco in Quito, studying tropical ecology.

 

Professional Experience:

For two years, I worked at Boston University in a research lab dedicated to the study of North America bat ecology. Following my graduation, I moved back to my hometown of St. Louis and worked as a project scientist for Trileaf  Corporation, which specializes in environmental regulations compliance. I moved to Ecuador in April of 2014 to begin teaching English and Science at the Colegio Americano.

Hellen Mills

Teacher of Language Arts, Reading & Science - 6th grade

Academic Background:

Academic and profesional background developed over years in Scotland, Bolivia and finally, Ecuador.

M.A in Sociology from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, TEFL and ICELT (Cambridge) qualified English Teacher. Certified in various teacher-development coursers, in English and Spanish.

 

Professional Experience:

12 years of experience working with a wide range of age groups with various specialized needs, from primary-school-aged children and teenagers in schools, summer camps, children`s homes and marginalized communities, to young adults and adults in University and international companies.

Leigh Angulo

Teacher of Language Arts, Reading & Science - 6th grade

Academic Background:

I graduated from Virginia Tech, a university that is ranked in the top 10 percent in the world, in Virginia, USA. After studying there, I received my Bachelor of Science degree in child Development and Education, and a minor in Psychology. I have also taken many professional development, English as a second language, and many others.

 

Professional Experience:

I have been teaching more then 15 years, and I consider a passion of mine. I have taught many different age groups including 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 6th, and hope to continue for years to come. Besides teaching, I have helped several schools to build their curriculums, facilitated the Honors and Gifted Program as well as the S. T. E. M (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program at my previous school, and was the head coach of a “Girls on the Run” National team that promotes self-respect and confidence in adolescente girls.

Michelle Rzepka

Teacher of Literature ll Bachillerato

Academic Background:

For my undergraduate degree, I studied at The University of Giorgia in Athens, GA, USA earning a B. A. in Spanish and a Certificate in International Agriculture.

During my time at UGA, I received a scholarship to study abroad spending one semester in Valencia, Spain where I focused on Spanish Literature and language acquisition, and I completed a summer internship at Zamorano Univesity with a focus on Animal Science. The year after graduating from UGA I completed a TESOL Language Certificate from Transworld School in San Francisco, CA, and currently I am working on my M.ed. in ESOL and Curriculum Design from George Mason University.

Professional Experience:

For three years I worked for Louisiana State University Agricultural Center’s International Programs Office as a program Coordinator where I was responsible for the coordination and implementation of international development proyects and internship programs. Following this position I worked as an ESl teacher with adults at Garden City Community College before moving to Guayaquil and starting at Colegio Americano.

Anthony Allen

Academic Background:

I studied at Central University of Ecuador in asssociation with the Canadian Institute of English, earning a degree (BA in TESOL).

 

Professional Experience:

This year will be my fifty-firt year in education having worked primarily at the Colegio Americano de Guayaquil. First, from 1968 to 1983 and later, from 1999 to the present. From 1983 to 1999, I had my own language academy to teach English here in Guayaquil.
